Bluegrass Band Ensemble (Winter)
*No class on January 20th
Want to learn how to form a bluegrass band? Take your first steps here.
This course is designed for students looking to establish a band and collaborate with similar musicians. Across eight sessions, participants will cultivate a live performance repertoire and gain skills for application in external jam settings. The curriculum will address band interactions during songs, key changes for vocalists, rhythmic and arrangement concepts, breaks, and the vital aspect of back up. On a weekly basis, we will choose a new song for the group to learn and perform together in a band setting.
Learning Materials: You should own or have access to the instrument you are signing up for. You should also have a general knowledge of the instrument and be able to play 4-5 songs at a tempo from beginning to end. Feel free to bring a cell phone or any recording devices so you can record rehearsals for at-home practice use. A listening guide will be provided for students to further explore the Bluegrass Songbook.
