Bob Dylan: The Early Years (1962-1966) – (Spring)
This class will explore the period of Bob Dylan’s evolution from a talented interpreter of folk guitar styles to master song craftsman and, ultimately, the iconic standard bearer of American songwriting.
Songs will be selected from Dylan’s first seven studio albums: Bob Dylan, The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, Times They Are a’Changin’, Another Side of Bob Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited, and Blonde on Blonde. In addition, we will learn two notable studio session outtakes released on Bootleg Series, Volume 1 and Biograph, Disc 1.
A list of songs will be provided to enrollees prior to the first class.
Notes:
With each song, we will learn the key, the most likely capo position, and occasional guitar tuning variations that will allow us to play along with the recorded version of the song. We will then learn the basic song structure, followed by the finer details such as base runs, chord variations, strumming styles, etc.. While songs will be covered primarily through demonstration and repetition, chord sheets and some basic tablature will be available for students to print and use.
Prerequisite:
Students MUST be able to play the basic 1st-position chords: A B7 C D E F G as well as Am Em and Dm.

Refunds, Pro-rates and Cancellation Policy: Refunds will only be issued if Calliope cancels a class due to insufficient enrollment. If that happens, you will be notified in advance and will receive a refund or credit within 30 days from the start of class. No refunds will be given to those who cancel their registration within 2 days before a class starts or after class begins. Classes may not be pro-rated; please plan accordingly.
