Guitar I Repertoire: Campfire Season

THIS CLASS IS CURRENTLY FULL FOR THE SPRING TERM.
There’s a subtle art to choosing a good campfire song. Unlike the typical music setting where you might run through your most challenging material, campfires lend themselves more to group participation than an individual showcase. If other musicians are joining in, it also helps to emphasize songs with predictable structures. Having a catalog of recognizable songs can help spark participation from others and add to the experience for all.
This class will emphasize well-crafted but approachable songs with appealing details that push our guitar skills in new directions. Techniques covered will likely include basic fingerpicking patterns, hammer-ons, moving bass lines, blues shuffle patterns, movable chord shapes, using a capo, chord variations, and melodic fills. Class will focus on simple blues, folk, and acoustic guitar standards and likely some student-requested songs.
Class is intended for the beginner/novice student. Students should be comfortable changing between the basic chords: ABCDEFG, Am, Em, Dm (AKA, the “cowboy chords”) and have an eagerness to try new techniques.
Recommended: a notebook and pen, clip-on tuner, and a capo.
