Uilleann Piping I

A chance for complete beginners to begin taming this daunting instrument. This class will start with maintenance basics and how to physically approach playing the uilleann pipes, and end with students able to play a few beginner tunes. Time will be given to techniques for steady playing, basic embellishments, and open/closed playing styles, and relevant aspects of the history of the uilleann pipes and Irish trad music in general. Students will need to come equipped with at least a playable practice set (bag, bellows, and chanter). IMPORTANT NOTE: none of the uilleann pipes available on Amazon or cheaply on eBay are worth purchasing. They are poorly made fakes that are impossible to get playing acceptably.
