Alla Boara

April 3, 2025 @ 7:00 pm

“This music is spirited, romantic, and ultimately refreshing. The combination of jazz and folk elements give it a very special quality that makes you want to listen again and again.”  – John Raymond, Trumpeter, Associate Professor in Jazz Studies at Indiana University Bloomington

Alla Boara celebrates the deep history of human music-making by cultivating fresh sounds from the ancient roots of regional Italian folk songs. Vocalist Amanda Powell’s captivating delivery is propelled by drummer Anthony Taddeo’s dynamic compositions, “breathing new possibilities into timeless stories while weaving in limitless and unexpected musical flavors” (Becca Stevens, GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter). The songs, near extinct in the wild, are presented here with a modern jazz sensibility. The ensemble’s debut recording “Le Tre Sorelle” was praised by Cleveland Magazine for its “top-notch musicianship.” The band has received critical acclaim from NPR’s “Shuffle,” SWR2 in Germany, All About Jazz, Jazz Weekly, and Cleveland Magazine. From the specific dialects, stories, and songs of Italy’s pre-industrial past spring Alla Boara’s universally touching performances inspire listeners of any heritage to treasure their ancestral roots and to revel in our shared humanity – as surprising, playful, mournful, and tender as the songs themselves.
