Celebrate the release of Alla Boara’s third full-length album, “Tessere,” in the Roots Cellar!

“Celebratory, rich, and heartfelt musical storytelling at its finest! Alla Boara has done it again with their third release, Tessere, capturing the heart and soul of Italian folk music through the ever-curious and playful spirit of jazz. Tessere is a delectable space where tradition and innovation get to dance together in every phrase.” – Becca Stevens
Working from Alan Lomax’s extraordinary 1954 field recordings of Italian regional folk songs, Alla Boara creates something vibrant and contemporary by suffusing the original source material with modern jazz sensibilities and global influences, creating a unique sound rooted in tradition but facing the future.
Alla Boara celebrates the deep history of human music-making by cultivating fresh sounds from the ancient roots of regional Italian folk songs. The band’s captivating delivery is propelled by drummer Anthony Taddeo’s dynamic compositions, “breathing new possibilities into timeless stories while weaving in limitless and unexpected musical flavors” (Becca Stevens, GRAMMY-nominated singer/ songwriter).
From the specific dialects, stories, and songs of Italy’s preindustrial past spring Alla Boara’s universally touching performances, which inspire listeners of any heritage to treasure their ancestral roots and to revel in our shared humanity – as surprising, playful, mournful, and tender as the songs themselves.
Calliope’s Ramblin’ Folk Series features regionally & nationally touring musicians at the Roots Cellar.
