Session Four: Nobody is Answering My Emails! Booking Locally and Touring

The final workshop session will discuss the ins and outs of booking shows for yourself both locally and for touring. The panel will be made up of active touring artists, booking agents, and venue owners. They will discuss effective ways to reach out to venues/non-traditional spaces, build a network, and generally present yourself as someone “bookable”. This will include concrete examples of what kind of emails to send, what to include in an electronic press kit, and how to maintain relationships with venues and fellow musicians. The foundation of the music business is relationship building. There are many different ways to approach building your own touring/booking network. The panel will give anecdotes on how they’ve been able to personally make connections and maintain them, whether for the purposes of touring, booking, or hosting musicians. There will be time at the end of the workshop to make a booking plan and work with the panel members to glean their insight.
The session will be three parts. The first part is a panel discussion with experts in this particular area; the second part will include a Q&A with the panel; and then the last part will be a hands-on activity.
