Grammy Award-winning artist Dom Flemons will release his new album, Making American Music, on January 22 in partnership with Smithsonian Folkways and the Library of Congress.
Known as “The American Songster,” Dom is a founding member of the Grammy-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops and has spent his career exploring the interconnected traditions that shaped American music. A singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, historian, and storyteller, his performances move fluidly through blues, folk, country, old-time, Piedmont, and Black roots traditions while illuminating the people and stories behind the music.
Making American Music offers something particularly special: a concert experience that is equally entertaining, musically exceptional, and culturally rich. Through performance and storytelling, Dom connects the music audiences hear today to the musicians, instruments, communities, and traditions that helped create it—while demonstrating that American roots music is not a relic of the past, but a living tradition that continues to evolve.
Calliope’s Ramblin’ Folk Series features regionally & nationally touring musicians at the Roots Cellar.
